Lot 4237
ARMENIA. Uncertain, AH 1323 = AD 1905/6. Stamp Seal (Bronze, 16x23 mm, 4.29 g). نِيشَان ('NĪSHĀN' in Arabic) / ԸԶՅԸ (?) ('EZYE' in Armenian script?) / ٣٢٣ (AH [1]323 = AD 1905/6). Good very fine.

This remarkable bilingual stamp seal opens with the Arabic inscription نِيشَان (Nīshān), meaning 'sign' or 'seal'. The second line likely contains the name of the seal’s owner, rendered in an unusual script that appears to be a stylized form of Armenian. One possible reading is ԸԶՅԸ (EZYE), though other interpretations may be considered. The final line records the year as 323, omitting the numeral ١ (1) that would otherwise indicate 1000. The seal can thus be dated to AH [1]323, corresponding to AD 1905/6.
